Privacy Policy
This page explains how information is handled on “Many Lights Tools” (“this site”). The site is operated by Many Lights, a business based in Japan.
1. Files you put into a tool are not sent to a server
The tools on this site process the files you choose (such as images, videos and zip files) inside the browser on your own device. The contents of your files, their names (including the names of files inside a zip) and your tool settings are not sent to our server or to anyone else. Text you type into a tool (such as words to add to file names, the notes and title of a receipt sheet, the participant or team names and the event name of a schedule, the event name, note and number prefix of a ticket, the display words of a now-serving screen, or the sizes of boxes and items) is likewise not sent, and is not stored. The files a tool makes are simply saved to your device. When you close the page, the working data in the browser is gone. The now-serving display is the exception: it keeps its number and settings (including the display words and prefix you entered) in the part of the page’s URL after the “#”, so the number stays when you open the same URL again. That part is not sent to our server, but it can stay in your browser history and bookmarks, and if you use browser history sync (across devices signed in to the same account) it can reach your other devices. Please do not put information that identifies a person, such as a name, in the display words. On a shared device, clear the history when you are done.
2. We do not collect information through sign-up or forms
This site has no accounts, no email sign-up and no forms that send what you type to us, so using the tools does not give us your name or email address. Text you type into a tool is used only on your device and does not reach us. Only when you send us an inquiry by email do we receive them, and we handle them as described in section 7.
3. What this site sends: page views and tool usage counts
To learn how much the site is viewed and how much each tool is used, we count page views and tool usage, and nothing else. We do not use third-party analytics or third-party advertising (for links to our own services, see section 8).
- What is sent: the name of the page type (the top page, which tool's page, or another page; Japanese or English), the name of the kind of place you came from (a search engine, social media, another page of this site, direct or unknown, or another site), and the name of a tool signal when you use a tool. Each is one short, fixed name.
- Where it is sent: our own counting server (operator: Many Lights; nyusatsu-otodoke.vercel.app, shared with “Nyusatsu Otodoke-bin”, another service of the same operator). It is not sent to third parties.
- Purpose: to know the number of page views and tool uses, so that we can decide which tools to fix and improve.
A tool signal is sent, as a name only, when one of these things happens:
- How many fit? Box and pallet loading calculator: pressed “Calculate” and the count was worked out; the print dialog was opened; the input had a problem so nothing was calculated, or the calculation failed
- Now serving display — a free take-a-number screen for a tablet or PC: pressed “Start display”, “Continue display” or, after the check, “Start again”; pressed “Next” for the first time after the page was opened (once per page; not counted on every press, and not counted when a reload brought the display back); the log was saved as CSV; the input had a problem so the display did not start, or starting it failed
- Numbered ticket generator — raffle and queue tickets with stubs, ready to print: pressed “Make tickets” and tickets were made; the print dialog was opened; the list of numbers was saved as CSV; pressed “Draw” and winning numbers were picked; the input had a problem so no tickets were made or no draw was done, or making them failed; pressed “I'd use this” on the “phone-only now-serving page (not available yet)” notice
- Rename photos by date taken: photos were loaded; renamed copies were saved as a zip; photos could not be loaded, or could not be saved
- Crop one image to several print ratios (2:3, 4:5 and more): an image was loaded; all files were exported (a zip was saved); one file was saved; an export failed
- Lay out receipt photos on A4 for printing: photos were loaded; the print dialog was opened; sheets were saved as images in a zip; photos could not be loaded or rotated, or could not be saved; pressed “I'd use this” on the “ledger version (not available yet)” notice
- Round-robin schedule maker with court assignment: pressed “Make the schedule” and a schedule was made; the print dialog was opened; the schedule was saved as CSV; the input had a problem so no schedule was made, or making it failed
- Extract frames from a video: a video was opened; one frame was saved; frames were extracted in bulk (a zip was saved); a video could not be opened, or a frame could not be extracted
- Fix garbled file names in ZIP files: a zip was opened; a zip was rebuilt with corrected names and saved; one file was extracted and saved; a zip could not be opened, or could not be saved
- What is not sent: the files you put into a tool, their names, your settings, text you type into a tool (such as notes), the URL of the page you opened, the URL or name of the referring site, or any ID that singles out your device or browser. As with any web request, your IP address, browser type (User-Agent) and the sending site (Origin) reach the server; they are used only to decide whether to count, and are not stored in the counts. The kind of place you came from is worked out inside your browser, and only the name of that kind is sent.
- What is stored: only daily totals (by Japan time) for each name. IP addresses and browser types (User-Agent) are not stored in these counts. The browser type and similar request information are used only to leave crawlers and prefetches out of the counts.
- No identification: we count only how many times something happened. We cannot tell who did it or on which device.
4. No cookies
This site does not use cookies, and it stores nothing in your browser's storage (such as local storage).
5. Service providers
We use Vercel (Vercel Inc., United States) to deliver the site and run the counting server, and Neon (a service of a US company; the data is stored in Singapore) to store the counts. The only data placed with them is the counts described in section 3. Separately from those counts, the hosting provider (Vercel) may keep connection records, including IP addresses, to the extent and for the period it defines.
6. Changes
When the tools or the counting change, we will update this page.
7. Contact
For questions about this page, write to the email address on the Contact page.
- The name, email address and message we receive in an inquiry email are used only to reply, and are not given to third parties. Email is received through a Microsoft (Outlook) service.
8. Links to other services by the same operator
The footer and some tool pages link to other services run by the same operator (Many Lights). These are our own services, and some are paid. A link itself sends nothing to the linked site until you follow it. Note that the usage counts in section 3 are sent to a server shared with Nyusatsu Otodoke-bin whether or not you follow a link. Links in the body of a tool page end with “?ref=bd”. The linked site uses this mark only to count visits that came from this site; it does not identify you. This site is set not to send a referrer to linked sites. Each linked site handles information under its own privacy policy.
